Dolgellau is a market town and lies on the River Wnion beneath Cader Idris - the legendary 'Chair of Idris'. For much of the middle ages it remained a village and then grew with the woollen industry which later declined in the 19th century. Today the town is a centre for the tourist industry and well placed for exploring the beauty of Snowdonia and the coast. There are a wide range of events and festivals with Coed y Brenin Forest Park nearby and Cymber Abbey is a short walk.
