Retirement Properties Spotlight in Barry

Barry: Barry lies on the South Wales coast to the southwest of Cardiff and was an important industrial centre for the surrounding area in the 19th century. Its name is thought to derive from 'barr' meaning a summit in Welsh. The de Barri family built a castle here and for much of the middle ages the town remained a samll port on the Bristol channel. In the late 19th century new docks were built and this led to considerable expansion with the export of coal. Porthkerry Country Park covers more than 225 acres and is to the west of the town. Barry Island is joined to the mainland by a causeway and is popular with holidaymakers.
