Llandrindod Wells developed as a Spa town in the 18th century with the discovery of the healing powers of the local spring water and then expanded with the coming of the railway in the 19th century. It became a popular regional centre and there are many Victorian and Edwardian buildings testifying to its prosperity at the time. In the 20th century international motorcycle events gave the town a further boost.
