Saltburn-by-the-Sea was originally a fishing village and developed in the 19th century through the discovery of iron stone in the Cleveland Hills becoming a Victorian seaside town with impressive buildings including the Zetland Hotel which had its own private platforms and was one of the world's first railway hotels. The Cleveland Way runs along the coastline and takes you to the site of a Roman Signal Station at Huntcliff.
