Newent : Newent is a small market town about eight miles northwest of Gloucester and was mentioned in Domesday as Noent and belonged to Cormeilles Abbey. This part of Gloucestershire has long settled and Bronze Age and Roman finds have been discovered nearby. Its name probably derives from a Celtic name meaning 'new place'.
