Kings Langley is an ancient market town with a long royal heritage being owned by several Queens. The moated manor house was bought by Queen Eleanor of Castile in the 13th century and she re-created it as a royal palace with a new vineyard. The first Duke of York was born at Langley Palace in the 14th century close to the remains of a Dominican friary, once the richest in the Kingdom.
