Over Hulton is about three miles southwest of Bolton close to the M61. Hulton coal mining interests were once some of the largest in Lancashire but with the decline in fortune of the industry the last Hulton Hall was demolished was demolished in the 20th century. Today Hulton is largely a commuter area for Westhoughton about two and a half miles to the west.
