Bournemouth : Bournemouth still has an air of Victorian charm with its beautiful gardens and pier with fun fair, theatre and bars. The town‘s first Winter Gardens were built in 1876 and the steep cliffs that shelter the famous beach are cut by the ‘chines‘ - garden valleys all beautifully landscaped. The railways came in the 1870s and the town expanded with many attractive residential areas being built.
Today Bournemouth has a thriving commercial centre and a host of national stores. The Bournemouth International Centre has exhibitions and conferences and there are art galleries and many museums in the town including one devoted to Shelley. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra has an excellent reputation.
